Igbere Health Center Revitalization Project

 The Igbere Health Centre is a product of communal self-help, having been built by members of an Age Group of this village. It was originally a simple maternity and its upgrade was a decent effort by the standards of its day. It is still primarily a maternity and the only significant health facility for a village of thirteen major communities - the only place for any kind of medical emergency. It still has many things going for it but is in dire need of facelift and TLC. Its roof leaks in many places. The floors are ordinary cement which makes proper cleaning rather challenging. The beds are basic, with rough bamboos to support mosquito nets, if available. The delivery room does the job, but the baby cot there tells its sorry story rather well. It has no functioning toilets for staff/patients. It has no reliable water or power supply. It is wide open to intruders and is threatened by erosion. Flood water runs wild right in front of the Health Centre, cutting gulliesand depositing sand.

Therefore, in Paul’s memory, we plan to....

1. Put a new and proper roof on the health centre.

2. Cover all floors with ceramic tiles to enhance hygiene.

3. Put a concrete fence around the facility and do some landscaping/drainage, including creating proper parking area.

4. Add modern toilets for both patients and Staff.

5. Build underground water tank to store rain water, plus an overhead water tank and pump.

6. A small solar power plant to guarantee basic lighting.

7. Five proper hospital beds and two proper baby cots.

8. A Conference Room where villagers can receive health tutorials.
